As some of you might have seen from my introduction thread, I'm new to the bow hunting game. Gone are the days I could line up my cross hairs behind the ear of a trophy reedbuck or impala and squeeze the trigger to see the animal disappear from my sight into a heap hidden from view by long veld grass.

Found this, thought it might be interesting. They have gone to the extent of freezing animals then scanning and cutting in half to show the actual size and placement of the vital organs. Very informative.

The animal moved just as my client fired his shot. The tracker and I agreed that the bull was hit. Shouldn’t be a big problem the buffalo were close, it was a clear shot. We immediately followed the dust and blood into the thick brush of the nearby korongo. It was the end of August and we had shot many buffalo. The Tanzania season had been in full swing for weeks now so this was nothing out of the ordinary. Last week we had a similar situation when a wounded buffalo that was left overnight...

Have been using a 23 x 35 target to simulate Steenbok etc. Shooting standing off sticks

I'm looking at making a buffalo target for a local shooting range. I'm planning on using AR500 steel and something similar to this picture (it still needs work), the thin white lines along the jaw-line and horn-line would be thin cuts in the steel to differentiate the head. To get the proportions correct, I'm looking for information on how wide a buffalo is ear-tip to ear-tip and how wide on the outside of the horns a buffalo like this would be? Thanks for any help you can offer....

For the past few weeks I've been practicing dry firing off of my tripod. I thought it was nonsense shooting of off a tripod in your family room. After three weeks I've got to say I'm now a believer. Muscle memory is real. Dry firing off my shooting sticks every day has given me a much better feel for the rifle and the target. Practice every day cause it works. I have never noticed, but was thinking about double-lung shots a few minutes ago and was curious if anyone else had ever noticed or thought about how quickly animals expire on double lung shots which miss the heart.

I have seen many articles and discussions about shot placement. What i cant seem to find is approximate average sizes of species hearts. Specifically Impala and Blesbok. Why would you need that you ask? I am taking my wife to Africa again and this time she will be hunting with me. She is a good shot but she is nervous about making the perfect shot. I have shown her the shot placement diagrams and she has seen Dr. Robertson's The Perfect Shot book but she cant seem to grasp the concept...
